Movers Enfield Health and Safety Policy
Movers Enfield is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for all employees, contractors, visitors and customers. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with removals, packing, loading, transport and delivery of goods, and to promoting a positive safety culture throughout our operations.
Aim and Scope
The aim of this policy is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and unsafe practices during moving and removal activities. It covers all work undertaken by Movers Enfield, including domestic and commercial removals, local moves, long distance transport, storage handling, loading, unloading and associated office activities.
This policy applies to all employees at every level, as well as any contractors working under the control of Movers Enfield. We expect everyone representing the company to follow the principles and procedures described in this document.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management carries overall responsibility for ensuring that effective health and safety management systems are in place. This includes providing clear leadership, setting safety objectives, and allocating adequate resources for training, equipment, supervision and monitoring.
Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy in their areas of control. They must ensure that risk assessments are completed, safe systems of work are followed, staff are competent for the tasks they perform, and any incidents, near misses or hazards are reported and addressed promptly.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. All staff must:
Follow safe working procedures and instructions, attend required training, use equipment correctly, wear appropriate personal protective equipment where issued, and report accidents, near misses, hazards or defective equipment without delay.
Employees must not misuse safety equipment or engage in behaviour that could compromise the health and safety of colleagues, customers or members of the public.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Movers Enfield will identify and assess significant risks associated with our moving and handling activities. This includes risks arising from manual handling of furniture and boxes, use of trolleys and lifting equipment, loading and unloading vehicles, driving, working at height for access purposes, and working in customer premises or shared spaces.
Based on these assessments, we establish safe systems of work for typical removal tasks, including route planning, safe access to properties, stair and lift use, control of traffic and parking near loading areas, and measures to prevent slips, trips and falls. These procedures are communicated to all relevant employees and are reviewed regularly.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal work and is a key focus of our safety management. Movers Enfield provides training on correct lifting and carrying techniques, team lifts, use of mechanical aids and recognition of personal limitations.
Where appropriate, handling equipment such as sack trucks, dollies, straps and ramps is supplied to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injury. Employees must inspect equipment before use, report defects, and not use damaged or unsafe items. Heavy or awkward loads must be planned and shared to avoid overexertion.
Vehicles, Driving and Loading
Movers Enfield maintains its vehicles in safe working order and ensures drivers are appropriately licensed and competent. Daily vehicle checks must be completed and any faults reported so that they can be rectified promptly.
Loading and unloading procedures are designed to secure goods safely, prevent load movement, and minimise the risk of injury from shifting items. Staff must follow guidance on weight distribution, use of securing equipment, safe access to vehicle beds and prevention of falls during loading operations.
Customer, Property and Public Safety
We recognise our responsibility to protect customers, their property and the general public during moving operations. Wherever possible, work areas are clearly identified and kept free from unnecessary obstructions. Access routes are planned to minimise disturbance and hazards.
Protective coverings, corner guards and suitable packing materials are used to reduce the risk of damage and to maintain safe, tidy workspaces. Particular care is taken when handling items in shared hallways, stairwells, entrances and on public pavements to prevent accidents and inconvenience.
Training, Information and Supervision
Movers Enfield provides appropriate induction and ongoing training in health and safety matters relevant to removal work. Training may include manual handling techniques, safe vehicle use, incident reporting, use of equipment and emergency arrangements.
Supervisors are responsible for ensuring that new or inexperienced staff are supported and monitored until they can demonstrate competence. Safety information is communicated clearly and reinforced through briefings, toolbox talks and refresher training as needed.
Incident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses, damage incidents and hazardous occurrences must be reported as soon as possible. This enables us to investigate causes, learn from events and introduce measures to prevent recurrence.
Movers Enfield maintains appropriate emergency procedures for incidents such as fire, serious injury, vehicle accidents and hazardous conditions at customer sites. Staff are briefed on how to respond, who to notify and how to assist safely while awaiting emergency services where required.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
We recognise that effective health and safety management depends on open communication. Movers Enfield encourages employees to raise safety concerns, suggest improvements and participate in discussions about safer ways of working.
Health and safety performance is monitored through reviews of incident reports, inspections and feedback from staff and customers. This policy and associated procedures are reviewed periodically, and whenever there are significant changes in legislation, working practices or the nature of our removal services, to ensure they remain effective and up to date.
Policy Review and Authority
This Health and Safety Policy is approved by the management of Movers Enfield, who accept overall responsibility for its implementation. The policy will be reviewed regularly and revised as required to reflect developments in best practice and the needs of our employees and customers.
All staff are required to familiarise themselves with this policy and to cooperate fully in its implementation so that Movers Enfield can continue to deliver professional removal services in a safe and responsible manner.
